Henry Isaacson

Henry Isaacson
Henry Isaacson was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. He is a World War II veteran who was one of the first troops to land in the invasion of Normandy, and fought the Nazis into Germany. Following the war, he attended law school at the University of Washington, where he obtained his Juris Doctor degree and was admitted to practice law in Washington.

Henry moved to New York City in 1953 and was subsequently admitted to practice law in New York. He was employed as an attorney at Klein & Ruderman, a firm specializing in maritime negligence. He went out on his own in 1955 and quickly established himself nationally as an expert in the field of personal injury/maritime negligence.

Over his distinguished career, Henry represented thousands of individuals, in general negligence matters and ship accidents and received millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements on their behalf. Henry was known as an authority on maritime law as it pertains to injured seamen and had played a key role in many of the leading decisions in the area of maritime law. Henry’s reputation as a meticulous attorney, unafraid to fight large corporations for his client’s rights, was only exceeded by his compassion for the individuals he represents.

In 1983, Henry formed a partnership with Martin Schiowitz and Michael Korson and expanded the firm’s scope to include a wider area of personal injury practice. The same skills and attention to detail that Henry had become known for in the preparation and prosecution of cases involving injuries to seamen, Henry applied to all of his cases.

Martin Schiowitz
Martin was born in Brooklyn, New York. He received a B.A. in economics from Brooklyn College in 1965. Following graduation he enrolled in post graduate economic studies at the City University of New York for a Masters degree in economics. Martin received a Juris Doctor from New York Law School in 1972 and was admitted to the Bar of the State of New York in April 1973.

From 1973 to 1978, Martin was employed as an associate trial attorney at the insurance defense firm of Halper, Passick, Prince and Weinstein, Esqs., where he defended and tried personal injury cases in the Civil and Supreme Courts. During this period, the firm assigned to him the responsibility of overseeing and taking to trial cases involving plaintiff personal injury matters. He succeeded in greatly expanding the firm’s plaintiff personal injury practice and quickly became the firm’s specialist, concentrating exclusively in this area.

In 1978, Martin joined Henry Isaacson, a greatly respected maritime negligence attorney and became partners with him and Michael Korson in 1983, when they established the present firm. Since its creation, Martin assumed the role of managing partner, focusing on the preparation and trial of personal injury matters from automobile accidents to wrongful death , medical malpractice , products liability, labor and premises law as well as municipal liability. Since 1974, Martin represented thousands of victims of negligence and succeeded in obtaining millions of dollars in compensation for his clients, some of which were multi million dollar verdicts and settlements. He appeared on television as an expert in the field of personal injury law and is often consulted by attorneys on tort law and practice.

Michael Korson

Michael Korson
Michael was born and grew up in Brooklyn. He graduated from Brooklyn College in 1963, having majored in political science. He attended Brooklyn Law School, where his legal education was interrupted by the military service. He served on active duty in the army from 1965 until his honorable discharge in 1968. He achieved the title of Outstanding Trainee of all of Fort Dix, a post-wide physical and mental competition, at the completion of his basic training cycle. He earned the grade of specialist 5th class, the equivalent of sergeant, in less than two years and he received a special commendation and certificate of achievement for his service before his discharge.

Following his time in the military, he resumed and finished his law school education in an outstanding fashion. He received his Juris Doctor degree in 1969. He was admitted to the practice of law in New York State that same year and subsequently was admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court, as well as all State and Federal courts in New York State.

While in law school, and after graduating, he worked for a general practitioner named Samuel Weinberg, who subsequently became a New York City judge. He tried his first case there and learned all the basics and many subtleties about the practice of a general law firm.

From 1969 to 1972, he was a member of the legal staff of Hartford Insurance Company where he now was taught by outstanding attorneys from all over the City, the finer points of defense practice and trial law at numerous lectures provided by the firm.

From 1972 to 1981, he worked for Irving B. Bushlow, a respected member of the New York Bar who oversaw a general practice which specialized in the representation of seamen and longshoremen who had been injured aboard and near ships. When a new statute was enacted in 1972 (the Longshoremen’s and Harborworker’s Act), which defined and restricted which cases could be brought to litigation for injured longshoremen, he won what was probably the first case which was tried under the new Act.

In 1981, Michael joined our firm and in 1983 he became one of the founding partners. Since the time he helped form the firm, he has been the primary trial attorney for the firm, at the same time handing the most difficult and serious mediations and depositions for the firm. Other attorneys frequently call him to seek his advice and to refer cases to him. He has always obtained outstanding results for our clients and remained totally dedicated to their best interests, as he was throughout his distinguished career. Many of his outstanding verdicts and settlements have been the subject of articles in the Daily News, New York Law Journal and Staten Island Adavance.

He believes that his greatest accomplishments are the letters of appreciation he has received from grateful clients.
